Pastor Vincent Peterson is the oldest son of Lambert and Marietta Peterson. He is a native of Warren and graduated from Warren Western Reserve High School in 1982. He graduated from Youngstown State University in 1987 with a degree in criminal justice. He received his Ohio Peace Officer’s training certificate in May 1991. He has been employed as a Trumbull County Adult Probation Officer since 1990. He currently holds the position of Officer in Charge, Intensive Supervisor, and is a member of the US Marshall’s Fugitive Task Force.
Pastor Peterson accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of 13. He is the Pastor of Providence Baptisst Church in Akron, Ohio where he has been pasturing since June of 2007. He is a former member of Triedstone Baptist Church where under the leadership of Pastor Samson Murry, Jr. he served as an associate minister. In the past, he has served on the usher boards, sang in the choir, and was head of the JAM youth group, which stands for Jesus And Me. He has taught Sunday school and vacation bible school and has been involved with Children’s ministry. He was a former deacon in training. Pastor Peterson was called into ministry and preached his first sermon September 1998. He was ordained in May 2007. He currently attends Moody Bible Extension in Warren.
Pastor Peterson is a member of the Ministerial Alliance where he serves as vice president and he has served as coordinator for Kidzfest. He is a member of the NEOCAP Citixens Advisory Board, and Forum Health Community Relations Board. He serves on several other boards as well. He was selected to speak at the Governor’s commission on socially disadvantaged black males, and the extinction of the black man and its effect on the African-American community and family nucleus. He has received numerous achievement and community awards, and recently received the award for Cultural Diversity and Leadership from YSU. In 1992, he was selected by the Youngstown Vindicator as a local hero ~ people who make a difference. He is also a member of the Trumbull County African Americans Hall of Fame. He has coached baseball, basketball, and football. In 2007, he helped coach his son’s High School football team in which they had an undefeated season and became MAC champions.
Pastor Person has been married to his wife Evelyn for 23 years. Together they have two children: Vincent II and Amber. He and his family reside in Howland Township.
